The fresh water angler is more than just a catcher of fish or a winner of trophies. To him, adherence to the ethical code of this ancient sport with its wealth of tradition goes without saying. In addition, he takes pride in knowing what fish he has caught. The Transvaal is blessed with a wealth of fish and species which do not occur further south in South Africa. The reason for this is that we are on the southern limit of the distribution of many tropical species. In this book, the authors present them in all their glory of form and colour, convinced that knowledge of nature serves to cultivate love and respect for them. The text and illustrations for the book were prepared by the Nature Conservation Branch of the Transvaal Provincial Administration.
