Published in 1975 by the Cape Piscatorial Society in a strictly limited edition of just 375 copies, this is No. 150 of 375, personally signed by both author Frank R Bradlow and illustrator R Townley Johnson. Copies from this small edition are now decidedly scarce, and the book is regarded as an important title in the literature of South African trout fishing. Bradlow was a renowned South African author, historian and collector whose lifelong passion for trout fishing found its way into more than two decades of articles for angling magazines. Here, those experiences are gathered into a collection of fishing stories spanning South Africa, Namibia and Lesotho, as well as Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Switzerland and Israel. What makes the book particularly appealing is Bradlow's warm and observant voice - he understands the great secret of fishing literature: the fish that got away is often a much better story than the fish that didn't. There are trout, rivers, journeys and adventures, but also mishaps, triumphs, characters and those wonderfully familiar moments when an angler discovers that the problem was, quite possibly, not the fish at all.
