When “The Pursuit of Stillwater Trout” by Brian Clarke was first published in 1975, it was immediately recognised as a milestone in angling literature. It has since been reprinted and translated many times, and is one of the acknowledged classics of modern angling literature. Being completely original at the time, it had a profound influence on the development of fly fishing on stillwaters and lakes, as the author advocated an approach based on observation and concentration - on floating lines, long leaders and small nymphs appropriately fished - offering anglers a completely thought-out and highly effective alternative to lure-fishing (at a time when lure-fishing looked set to dominate the stillwater scene). Brian Clarke sets out the step-by-step thought processes which enabled him to increase his catch-rate by several hundred per cent in just a couple of seasons and shows how each kind of rise can be analysed to show what natural the fish has probably taken - and so what artificial might give the best chance of success. He gives the first detailed analysis of variations in the take to the nymph, and much more. This became the first sporting book of any kind ever to be serialised by British The Sunday Times. Beige hardcover with gilded letters on spine and contents pages in very good condition (dustcover shows age-related wear). B&w photos and sketches throughout. Hardcover, 192 pages.
